Sydney hyperbolic crochet coral reef workshops
What do crochet, hyperbolic mathematics and a coral reef have in common? Find out as the Powerhouse Museum hosts the Sydney hyperbolic crochet coral reef, part of the Ultimo Science Festival.
Get crocheting in a series of workshops during May, June and July with Institches collective (the artists behind the reef). The workshops will introduce experienced crocheters to the idea of creating models of hyperbolic space for an exhibition in August, and teach novices both crochet and hyperbolic mathematics.
Workshops will be held in the Museum, 3 pm – 5pm on Sunday 26 April, Sunday 31 May, Sunday 29 June and Sunday 26 July. The workshops are free with Museum admission (participants can return for multiple workshops after paying admission for their first workshop, and also get admission to the exhibition during 21 – 30 August). All materials are provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own reusable wool, yarn or any thread too
